<p>&nbsp;</p> <p>Doris J. Thompson, age 89, of Huntington, went to be with Jesus surrounded by her loving family Friday, June 11, 2021 at 7:40 pm.</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <p>Doris was born at home Thursday, November 5, 1931, in Lancaster Township, a daughter of Franklin C. and Helen B. (Welker) Lahr.&nbsp; She was later adopted by her step-father Russell R. Wells.</p> <p>On August 2, 1949, she married her high school sweetheart Roger G. Thompson in Mt. Etna.&nbsp; He passed away September 4, 2020.&nbsp; They lived their entire married life of 71 years in the home where Roger was born and spent his childhood.&nbsp; The farm has been in the Thompson family over 125 years.&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>She is survived by 3 daughters Venus (M. Dennis) Hay of Huntington, Debora (Frank) Barth of Lagro, Pamela (Dana) Pegg of Marion, a son Gary (Mary Ostman) Thompson of Huntington, 10 grandchildren Heather (Rodney) Tinsman of Lagro, Daniel (Nicole) Barth of Peru, Joe (Holly) Thompson of Huntington, Phillip (Julia) Thompson of Valdosta, GA, Kevin (Melissa) Thompson of Columbia City, Jessica (John) Brewer of Huntington, Sarah (Peter) Hofstetter of Indianapolis, Aaron (Michelle) Pegg of Gaylord, MI, Laura (Peter) West of Charleston, SC, Rachel (Eric) Dice of Las Vegas, NV, 21 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.&nbsp; In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Karen D. Jones, a grandson Christopher Pegg, a foster son Terry Joe Bovinet, a brother Larry Wells, and a sister Lois Drake.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>She and her husband were members of The Majenica Christian &amp; Missionary Alliance Church for 34 years.&nbsp; Then in 1988 they became charter members of Cornerstone Alliance Church in Roanoke.&nbsp; Doris taught Sunday school for many years and several different Bible studies.&nbsp; Her greatest joy was serving her Lord, and her special love was missions.&nbsp; The family owned and operated R &amp; D Hobby Shop for many years, and they sold the business in 1982.&nbsp; She worked as a program aid for Green Thumb from 1993-1997.&nbsp; After her retirement she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, reading- especially her Bible, sometimes reading as many as 50 other books a year.&nbsp; She loved flowers, watching birds, and working on her embroidery machine.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 15 from 6-8 pm at Cornerstone Alliance Church, 5833 E 900 N, Roanoke, and Wednesday, June 16 from 10-11 am preceding the 11:00 am funeral service at the church.&nbsp; Revs. Rick Harris and M. Dennis Hay will officiate. Burial will follow in Lancaster Cemetery.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>In lieu of flowers preferred memorials are to Cornerstone Alliance Church or the Christopher Pegg Memorial Scholarship-Taylor University, c/o Deal-Rice Funeral Home, 338 E. Washington St., Huntington, IN 46750.</p>

Doris J. Thompson, age 89, of Huntington, went to be with Jesus surrounded by her loving family Friday, June 11, 2021 at 7:40 pm.
