Eleanor Kearns Cynthiana, Kentucky Obituary

Eleanor Kearns

Eleanor McCord Kearns, 85, passed away June 11, 2021, at her Harrison County home. Born February 14, 1936, in Bourbon County, she was the daughter of the late Zettie Sargent Campbell and late Raymond McCord. Eleanor was also preceded in death by her husband, Donald Thomas Kearns, one son, Gregory Thomas Kearns, her son-in-law, Tony Williams, and several siblings. Survivors include daughters, Donna Williams, and Pam (Robbie) Gaunce; a sister, Joan Campbell Stafford, and a brother, Gary (Cathy) McCord. Other surviving family members are six grandchildren: Bradley Kearns, Rebecca (Derrick) Frodge, Ryan (Katie) Howard, Nathan Kearns, Lucas Williams, and Aaron Howard; two great grandchildren: Aden Frodge and Addison Howard; and several nieces and nephews. Eleanor also leaves behind her special pet, Charlie, whom she adored. Eleanor and her husband were lifelong Harrison County farmers who shared their bounty with family and friends. She also served as a cafeteria lady at Eastside Elementary School which allowed her to enjoy preparing lunches for the many children who passed through her doors. Eleanor received the honorable title of Kentucky Colonel from former Governor Paul Patton and was an active member of the Cynthiana Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Perhaps one of the most fitting quotes to describe Eleanor Kearns is this: “The natural state of motherhood is unselfishness. When you become a mother, you are no longer the center of your own universe. You relinquish that position to your children.” And another: “The mother’s heart is the child’s schoolroom.” Family and friends certainly consider Eleanor to be the epitome of these words. Through her heart of love, unselfish nature, and her active presence in her children’s/grandchildren’s lives, she defined “mother.” The Kearns family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Besson and Hospice staff for their loving care and support. Visitation will be 11-2 on Wed., June 16, at the Ware Funeral Home. The service will follow at 2:00 with Dr. Larry Bishop officiating. Burial will be at the Battle Grove Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Bradley Kearns, Lucas Williams, Ryan Howard, Aaron Howard, Nathan Kearns, Derrick Frodge, Aden Frodge, and Robbie Gaunce. Honorary pallbearers: Norman Greenlee, Billy Phillips, Gary McCord, and Lloyd Stafford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bluegrass Care Navigators, 1317 U.S. 62, Cynthiana, KY 41031.
