<p><span style="font-size:24px;">Gregory E. Ricketts &ldquo;Big Unc&rdquo;&nbsp;66, of Soddy-Daisy, died June 11, 2021. He was born December 23, 1954. He was preceded in death by his wife, Thena Stewart Ricketts and parents, Ollie Pollard&nbsp;Ricketts and William Evan Ricketts and brother, William L. Ricketts. His&nbsp;great niece, Brittni Frank and her son, Nolan also preceded him in death. He was a longtime member of Soddy United Methodist Church. He was a coach at Sale Creek High School and Ooltewah High School and the head of the Social Studies Department of Ooltewah High School for many years. He was the score-keeper for the Chattanooga State Basketball team. After retiring from Hamilton County Schools, he volunteered as a tutor for the members of the basketball team at Chattanooga State. He loved to go places with Coach Jay Price. He was always saying that his best friend Jay knew all of the good places to eat, especially gumbo and wings. He also enjoyed going with the team on road trips. Prior to retirement from teaching, Greg and Thena would organize summer international trips with his students. He also loved the Atlanta Braves good season or bad season. He would always go to Florida for Spring Training and follow the Braves around Florida with his childhood friend, Sammy Martin. He loved to walk up in the Soddy Gulf, he called himself and his brother, Tom, Soddy Old Timers. He also enjoyed camping with his brothers in Lost Creek Campgrounds in Tellico.<br /> <br /> He is survived by his brother, Thomas (Linda) Ricketts; sister-in-law, Pat Ricketts, niece and caretakers, Angie and Karah Carson; nieces, Dr. Leigh (Greg) Ricketts-Bishop &amp; Heather (Pete) Wolfe, nephew, Randall (Daniela) Ricketts, great nephews, Sebastian and Benjamin Ricketts; great niece, Charlotte Ricketts; special friends, Sammy and Penney Martin and Jay Price. Gregory E. Ricketts “Big Unc” 66, of Soddy-Daisy, died June 11, 2021. He was born December 23, 1954.
