On Wednesday, June 9th 2021, Joesph “John” Hayes, loving father and favorite uncle to many passed away at the age of 59.

John was born on August 3rd 1961 in Cambridge MA. He graduated from Billerica High School and shortly after graduating he joined the sanitation department of Boston alongside his own father and brother. In 1987 he moved to his family’s summer home on Little Ossipee Lake in East Waterboro ME. For years he took care of his grandparents William and Phyllis Murray and then eventually his own mother Roberta Hayes. In 1989 he was blessed with his lovely daughter, Shaunte.

For those of us who knew John “Chopper” Hayes we knew that he was the life of any party. He was known to put others before himself. John had a passion for traveling, rock classics, and racing his checkmate on the lake. He was known for his sense of humor, contagious energy, and his welcoming and compassionate spirit.

He is precedeased by his brother Eddie Hayes, Jr.

John is survived by his daughter, Shaunte E. Hayes, of Waterboro Me, his brother, William M. Hayes and sister-in-law, Kim M. Hayes, his brother Michael P. Hayes, his nephews, William R. Hayes, Dillan P. Hayes, his nieces, Nicole L. Hayes, Kaylee E. Hayes, his nephew Aidden Hayes,his great nephew, Dominic A. Wetzelaer, and his great nieces Alexia M. Wetzelaer, and Cameron L . Moses.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on June 12th and June 13th at 30 Landry Road Waterboro ME for anyone that wants to come celebrate John’s life. Per request from John “Chopper” Hayes there will be a Choppalozza on July 3rd to give him his Mardi Gras send off!

The family would like to thank his lifelong friends, his Little Ossipee neighborhood community, and the medical staff at Maine Medical Center.
