Thomas E. Kmiecik Obituary

Thomas E Kmiecik (Tom) died peacefully on Thursday, June 10, 2021, after a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer. He was the much-loved son of Edward and (the late) Jean Kmiecik, caring brother to Susan, Linda, Carol and Joseph and devoted uncle to Amanda and Emily. Tom received his PhD from The Pennsylvania State University and did cancer research for the first half of his career. He transitioned from research to computer programming, and finished his career in medical data informatics, again involved in cancer research. Tom was an intellectual, read voraciously, and was multi-talented. He loved his home and painstakingly worked to refinish it to a Prairie/Craftsman architectural style. He created a beautiful outdoor garden of plants and flowers. Tom learned to play guitar, emphasizing finger-picking and classical guitar styles. He had a vast CD music collection of classical and Latin jazz artists. Tom loved long bike rides and walks. He was a devout Green Bay Packer fan from an early age and enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs. Tom was an avid fisherman, always trying to catch that ‘lunker’ bass while up in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. Tom will be missed and is gone too soon. Services and Entombment will take place at St. Adalbert Mausoleum on Saturday, June 19, 2021, at 10:30 am. Family and friends will meet at cemetery office parking lot at 10:15 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts should be made to The Field Museum in Chicago. For more information, please call 773-774-0366 or www.colonialfuneral.com.
