Virginia Hanson Obituary

Sangerville – Virginia Hanson, 97, passed away peacefully June 10, 2021, at her home. She was born November 30, 1923, in Bradford, the daughter of Gerald and Edith (McAvey) Rozelle. Virginia was brought up in a fine Christian home and church. She most recently was a member of the Grace Bible Church in Sangerville. Virginia was a graduate of Higgins Classical Institute, Charleston, the University of Maine, Orono, the Eastern Maine General Hospital School of Nursing, and served a brief time as an Army Cadet Corps nurse. After that she became a clinical instructor of nurses at the Madigan Memorial Hospital in Houlton before marrying Linwood Hanson of Bradford in 1950. Linwood served as Pastor of the first Baptist Church of West Gardiner for seven years and Bryant Pond Baptist Church for 35 years, 1963-1998. Virginia enjoyed teaching children and young people in the Sunday School, Child Evangelism Fellowship, Awana and accompanying her husband in pastoral visits. Her hobbies were gardening and helping her husband in various carpentry projects. Virginia’s family appreciated the example of her dedication to the Lord and His work. Also, they enjoyed her sense of humor. Her favorite Bible Book was Philippians and favorite verses were Romans 5:8 and 2 Corinthians 3:5. Virginia is survived by her daughter, Ellen Hanson of Sangerville, who lovingly cared for her; sister-in-law, Jane Rozelle of Willimantic; nephew, David Rozelle and his wife, Joy, of Idaho; and her niece, Deanna Dauphinee and her husband, Steve, of Willimantic. She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Linwood Hanson; brother, Lloyd Rozelle; sister, Barbara Rozelle; and nephew, Eric Rozelle, who was a missionary to Chile. A private burial will be held in the family lot in Williams Cemetery, Bradford. A memorial service will be held 3PM Saturday, June 19, 2021, at the Bradford Baptist Church.
