Frederick K. Obermeier Jr., 83, of Louisburg, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at his home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 16, 2021, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church 606 South Elm Street, Louisburg, Kansas. The Rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2021, at Dengel and Son Mortuary Louisburg Chapel, followed by a visitation for family and friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Interment 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 16, 2021, at Mount Olivet Cemetery Kansas City, Missouri. Fred was born April 7, 1938, in LaCygne, Kansas, during a snowstorm. He was the son of Frederic and Jessie (Cook) Obermeier. Fred Sr. traveled on horseback to get the doctor. Jessie had been told by Fred Sr. that he did not want a son named after him. Due to the storm, Fred Sr. and the doctor were delayed, arriving after Fred was born and already named. He graduated from Paola High School with the class of 1956. Fred enlisted in the United States Army June 8, 1956. Serving in the Algerian conflict throughout Germany for 18 months. When discharged he went into trade school at Bendix Corporation, Kansas City, Missouri. He was a lifetime member of pipefitters Local 533. He was united in marriage to Twyla J. Marmon on June 30, 1960. Through this union five children were born. They later divorced. Fred was united in marriage to Joyce M. Canfield October 20, 1979, at Kansas City, Missouri. She survives of the home. Fred was a lifelong Pipefitter for 17 years during the 1970’s and 1980’s. He continued as a plant pipefitter at Ford Motor Company in Claycomo, Missouri for ten years retiring in 1999. To most of his co-workers and friends he was known as “Obe”. He was one of the founding members for the Association of the Retarded Challenged at Osawatomie State Hospital in 1967. Fred was the President of the ARC in Miami County from 1968 to 1972. In 1968 Lakemary for Exceptional children, Paola, Kansas was built on land donated by the Ursuline Sisters and dedicated by Senator Bob Dole. Fred’s son, Richard was a charter resident and is currently living there today. Fred also belonged to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in LaCygne, Kansas where he joined the Knights of Columbus aiding in establishing the chapter there. He was a 4th Degree Honor Guard and became Grand Knight of District No. 13. Fred later joined the Knights of Columbus Council No. 12437, Louisburg, Kansas. He bought a lake lot and built a home in Linn Valley, Kansas living there for 14 years. Many happy years were spent golfing, fishing and playing on the water with family. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Frederic and Jessie Mae Cook Obermeier, sisters, Oona M. Woodhead and Karen K. Block, brothers, Wesley Wayne and Roger Carl Obermeier, Gary O. and Lawrence J. Canfield, grandsons, Colby Christopher Bouziden and Trevor Cole Martin. Survivors include his wife, Joyce, children, Richard K. Obermeier, Paola, Kansas, Donna J. (Chris) Bouziden, Alva, Oklahoma, Debra L. (Mike) Boyers, Paradise, Texas, Diane L. (Jeff) McAlpin and Darcie L. Obermeier, both of Alva, Oklahoma, Karen (Gene) Eichten, Jordan, Minnesota and Denise M. Canfield, Louisburg, Kansas; sixteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.
