James J. Schmitt of Brookfield, WI took his final road trip to the Northwoods on June 10, 2021 at the age of 91. Jim was born on March 11, 1930 in Wauwatosa, WI. Beloved husband of the late Marcella (nee Marks). Preceded in death by his siblings Mary (John) Kurty, Margaret Schmitt, Virginia (Robert) Feind, Michael (Kathleen) Schmitt, Jack (Dorothy) Schmitt, and Tom Schmitt. Also survived by sister-in-law Lorraine Marks, many loving nieces, nephews, and close relatives and friends. He was President and Co-owner of Schmitt Brother’s Merchandising, Inc. Jim served in the U.S. Army as a Military Police in the Korean War and was a very active member of the American Legion Post 449 in Brookfield. He was a devoted church member attending 6:30 a.m. Mass every day. He loved his road trips up north to Winter, WI in Sawyer County to hunt, fish and cook. Visitation Wednesday, June 23 at the Harder Funeral Home from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM with a Prayer Vigil at 6:45 PM. Additional visitation will be held on Thursday, June 24 at St. Mary’s Visitation Catholic Church, 1260 Church St., Elm Grove, WI from 9:30 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM, followed by a Graveside Service and Military Honors at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Elm Grove. The family would like to thank the staff at Ascension-Franciscan Place for their compassion, care and friendship. Memorials to St. Mary’s Visitation School or American Legion Post 449 would be appreciated. Jim uplifted all and made everyone happy.
