James Patrick Thomas died on June 6, 2021 at 75 years in Houma, Louisiana where he was living for over 20 years. His death was from kidney and heart complications. He was born January 7, 1946, attended Stearns Elementary School and graduated from The McCallie School in Chatanooga, Tennessee. He also attended Northwestern University and the University of Tennessee. His vocation was journalism, publishing articles in Rolling Stone and local newspapers. His love and interest in McCreary County led him to publish the 1989 “Lore and Legend” magazine of “Stearns Pioneers: An Era Recaptured in Original Writings and Unseen Photos.” He is the son of Dr. Frank Thomas and Mary Veach Thomas.
