Barbara Claudine Ringen

Barbara Haight Ringen, age 94, made the last stitch in her tapestry of life, a work full of vibrant colors, talent, service and compassion, on June 4, 2021 in San Antonio, Texas. Barbara was an enthusiastic church choir member throughout her life; singing in the choirs of St. Andrew’s UMC, Northwood Presbyterian, and, most recently, Central Christian church. She was a charter member of the Methodist Hospital Blue Bird Auxiliary, volunteering in many different capacities at the hospital for more than 50 years. Barbara was passionate about cross-stitching, angels, butterflies, gardening, volunteering, singing, helping others and enjoying the company of her many friends. Her needlework creations filled her home and were treasured by many. Sharing her creative talents for more than a decade in the Threads of Blessing program affording supplies for Ugandan women to create their own tapestries whose proceeds help fund education, medical care, crops and homes for their villages. She was also a strong supporter of the Texas Lutheran University School of Music, their community musical outreach program and their scholarship programs. Barbara was preceded in death by husband Walter (Spike) and step-daughter Cherri. She is survived by her siblings Phillip Haight of New York, Dexter & Michael Ann Haight of California, Earline Hughes plus many nieces, nephews and friends. Special thanks to those who made Barbara’s life extraordinary including Doug Boyer, Gail Guthrie, Cindy & Danny Sotello, godchildren Anne Ledet and John Robert Moses and nurse Erin Bell of Embrace Hospice. Celebration of Barbara Ringen’s life will occur Sunday, June 27th, 3:00 p.m. at Central Christian Church.
