Consolee (Lee) Schaeffer Goodfellow

Consolee (Lee) Schaeffer Goodfellow, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother died at her home on Sunday, June 6, 2021 with her daughters by her side. She was 94 years old. Lee was born on December 19, 1926 in NYC. She was the daughter of Elizabeth Swyers Schaeffer and the noted illustrator Mead Schaeffer. They resided in NYC and Arlington, Vt. Lee attended boarding school at Burr and Burton Seminary during WWII, graduating in 1945. She and her sister Patricia (Patty) Schaeffer Robinson, who predeceased her, modeled for Norman Rockwell during this time. Lee was the model for several of Rockwell’s paintings including the Willie Gillis series. Lee attended Pratt Institute and the Arts Student League of NYC. She married Robert Goodfellow, who predeceased her in 2020, at the Des Artistes, NYC in 1951. She worked as a designer for the Butterick Pattern Company and was also a designer of children’s clothing and greeting cards. Lee and Bob raised four children together. They and their three youngest children moved from Ridgefield, Ct. to Manchester, Vt. in 1971. Lee was the owner of The Blue Gingham Cat, a children’s clothing store within The Enchanted Dollhouse. She later enjoyed working at several retail shops in Manchester. She was, however, a mother and homemaker above all else. When her children got home from school each day they always found her sitting at her card table with her scissors in hand. She created beautiful stuffed felt greeting cards while her soap operas played in the background. Lee or “Moo” as she was affectionately called by her family, loved anything to do with babies and children. She delighted in holding her eight grandchildren and her five great grandchildren and just couldn’t resist “giving them a squeeze”. Lee loved to read and was a frequent visitor to the local libraries. She and Bob also enjoyed having a picnic at the covered bridge in West Arlington. It was a special place for them because it brought back memories of the art studio her father once had nearby. She is survived by her children Robert Goodfellow of Sunderland, Richard (Amy) Goodfellow of Arlington, Susan (Timothy) Waker of Manchester and Jennifer (Robert) Bushee of Manchester. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. There will be no funeral services at this time. The family is planning a private celebration of her life at a later date.
