La’Maurie “Maurie” Tray’ion Gathings was born October 9th, 2003, to parents LaTasha L. Earsery-Collins and the late Chad E Gathings. After the death of Maurie’s father he was raised by Marcus D Collins. La’Maurie was taken from us on Friday, June 4th, 2021, at the age of 17. Maurie worked hard in school, despite all the obstacles that were thrown at him, and was a year away from graduating. Maurie loved playing football and was extremely talented. His love for football started at a young age when he first started playing for The Tenth Street Cardinals in little league, then went on to play for Iroquois and Fairdale High Schools. Maurie loved to help his community. He mowed lawns, raked leaves, shoveled snow and even took the garbage to the street for neighbors. He shared the passion of fishing with his stepfather. They had just returned from their annual father and son fishing trip on Sunday, May 30th, 2021. Maurie would have done absolutely anything for the people he loved and even people he didn’t know. He did anything for his loved ones with no questions or hesitation, he loved his family more than anything. Maurie would bend over backwards for his family on bad terms and all. Maurie’s smile was contagious, he brightened up every room he walked into. You felt safe and protected when he was around. Maurie was a very playful person who loved music, playing video games and talking on the phones for hours. Maurie was a son, brother, cousin, nephew, uncle and an amazing friend. Maurie was a very loved young man. He leaves behind parents LaTasha Collins and Marcus Collins; grandparents, Elaine Murrell, Lee Thomas, Ingrid Galbreath, Charles Gathings, Donna Collins and Richard Gordan; sisters, De’Mauria Gathings, Andreise Gathings, Mariana Collins and Auryana Collins; brothers, Chad (Kady) Gathings and DeVontae Stephens; nieces and nephews, JyAyre Fields, DreYaunah Fields, Marriel Cheatman, Makayla Gathings and Kingston Gathings and a host of many other family and friends.
