Alfred Toney Marez

Funeral services for former area resident, Alfred Toney Marez will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, December 18 at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow at Cortez Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, December 17 at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Fred was born on April 23, 1923 in Gallup, N.M. the son of Jose and Jesusita (Candelaria) Marez. Fred went to Heaven on December 11, 2015 at his daughter's home in Fort Lupton, Colo. at the age of 92. Fred married Lillian Francisco in June 1942. They had 3 children, Bob, Joann and Mary Louise. He enlisted in the US Army in 1944 and proudly served in WWII. Fred later married Ouida North and became step-father to Shane, Nacole and Wendy. Fred lived his life to the fullest in the Cortez/Dolores area, where he loved to hunt and fish. He was a very big part of our family and will be greatly missed. Fred is survived by his children, Alfred Robert "Bob" Marez, and Joann Espinoza; his step-children, Shane, Nacole and Wendy; his sister, Helen John; his many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; and also many nieces and nephews. Fred was preceded in death by his wives, Lillian Francisco Marez and Ouida North Marez; and his daughter, Mary Louise.
