Wendy Gayle Kruyssen Obituary

With deep sadness, the family of Wendy Gayle Kruyssen announces her passing on May 25, 2021.

Wendy was compassionate, thoughtful, and creative. A kind and loving mother, she was always willing to offer a hand of support or words of advice to any who asked.

A cornerstone of the community, Wendy dedicated untold hours volunteering personally and professionally. For over 25 years she was active with Scouts Canada in many roles, from the community group leader to Council positions coordinating fundraising and activities throughout southern Alberta. She spent a great deal of time volunteering at the elementary school both her sons attended, both in and outside of the classroom. Ranging from field trips to classroom support, she was also a key organizer of a program where students were able to open their first bank account and learn the basics of money management and saving. She coordinated the Bay Street Tycoons, introducing youth to the stock market and the economy. In recent years she volunteered with Field of Crosses, ensuring present and future generations would always remember the thousands of men and women who gave their tomorrows for our today.

Professionally she was active in many accountant networking organizations where she served as an executive. Wendy served on a committee coordinating professional development seminars for Calgary and Alberta accountants. She was a member of a team that successfully merged 3 of the accounting bodies in Alberta.

Wendy worked as an employee then contract accountant for various corporations while earning her designation (CMA, CPA). Once she held her designation, she began her own public practice, building it into a very successful business. She also opened a craft store “Stitching at Hearthside”. Though short-lived it was another dream accomplished. She sold her accounting practice in 2019 leading to a slow entry into retired life where she was busier than ever.

Through all of this, she maintained many hobbies, including painting (canvas and on milk cans), knitting, sewing, bobbin-lace, beading, and many other crafts. She was a regular blood donor from an early age, hitting many donation milestones throughout her life. Wendy had a broad taste in music, a love of nature, especially birds, of which chickadees were her favorite. She enjoyed traveling with friends and family. Trips to France, Italy, Hawaii, and Bermuda were filled with fond memories.

Wendy was predeceased by her father Kieth Davis and sister Teresa (Teri) (George) Reaman.

Wendy is survived by her two sons Brent and Greg; and her husband Glenn. Her mother Ina Hornaman; loving sister Vickie (Jim) Hartog; and brothers Robert, Kevin, and Richard (Lora-Lee) Davis.

Wendy will be fondly remembered by many people in her personal life and professional relationships developed over years. Her mother and father-in-law, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, Wendy’s family welcomes you to pay tribute through a memorial donation to the Museum of the Regiments or Field of Crosses in Calgary.

A Private Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, June 3, 2021 at 1:00pm the service is available to be viewed below.
