Michelle Joyner Hayes, 59, passed away at St. Mary’s Hospital, in Decatur, IL surrounded by her family.
Michelle was born on November 30, 1961 in Waukesha, Wisconsin to Edgar Knox Jr. and Jessie (Banks) Woods.
After receiving her GED, Michelle relocated to Decatur, IL in 2003 to be closer to her children and grandchildren. Michelle was incredibly involved in the community and made a huge impact on the lives she touched. She worked and volunteered at many places such as; Decatur Memorial Hospital, Cancer Center of Decatur, Webster Cantrell Hall and The Decatur City Transit System.
Once Michelle relocated to Decatur, she met the love of her life, Duane Joyner Hayes, who she was married to for over 13 years. Michelle was known as the matriarch of the family. After the passing of her mother she stepped in and made sure the family stayed together. She always put others before herself no matter what she was going through. She will be deeply missed by many that knew her.
Michelle leaves to cherish her memories to her husband: Duane Joyner Hayes. Her children: Jesse (Kristyn) Booth, Brandi Williams, Ozetta Michelle Ann Knox, Diana Lark and Anthony Lark. Siblings: Shelly Knox, Arthur Woods Jr., and Carrie Alexandar. Brothers: Edgar Knox III, Johnathan Knox and Robert Knox. Grandchildren: Nature Williams, Jabori McGraw, Amanda Williams, Raellyn Booth, Jesse Booth Jr., Jasmyn Booth, and Javonah Crook.
Michelle is preceded in death by her parents: Edgar Knox Jr. and Jessie (Banks) Woods and son: Adam Lark.
