Sharon Elizabeth Sydnor Obituary

Sharon Elizabeth Sydnor, age 64, was born on August 26, 1956 in Muskegon, Michigan to Orville and Hattie Sydnor. On Friday May 7, 2021 our heavenly Father decided it was time for her to come home.
Sharon graduated with honors from Muskegon Heights High School in 1974. After graduating she attended Michigan State University in Lansing, Michigan.

Sharon started her career at General Telephone Company (GTE) while still in high school, working during summers and school breaks. In 1976 She moved back to Muskegon Heights where she continued her employment with GTE. After 34 years of service, Sharon accepted an early retirement offer from the company which by then had become Verizon. A dedicated employee, she received the GTE Telephone Operations President’s Leadership Award in recognition of her outstanding leadership qualities.

Sharon was a faithful member of New Hope Baptist Church, the same church she grew up in. She served in the hospitality ministry and was always willing to support activities and programs held at the church.

Sharon was known for her cakes (Dump and German Chocolate), which were often requested for holidays, family gatherings or just because. She loved to read and collect recipes and could often tell you how something should be cooked even if she’d never tried cooking it herself. She also loved to watch cooking shows such as Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives and The Great British Bake Off. Sharon also enjoyed playing Scrabble, card games, dominoes and crossword puzzles. A strategic thinker, she seldom lost.

Although Sharon had no children, she was Auntie (or Tee-Tee) to many nieces and nephews who could always depend on her for a ride, a couple of dollars or a treat to the movies, beach or other outing. She was the life of the party at family gatherings, always keeping the mood happy and festive.
Sharon was preceded in death by her mother, Hattie Sydnor; maternal grandparents, Salem and Elizabeth Patterson, Mabel Patterson; and paternal grandparents, Clarence and Beatrice Sydnor.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her life partner of 42 years John (Snoop) Washington of Muskegon, MI; Father, Orville Sydnor of Muskegon Heights, MI; Sisters, Debra (Gerald) Sydnor-Pickett of Detroit, MI; Tracy (Carl) Sydnor-Carter of Spanaway, WA; and Jacquelyn (Adren) Harris of Raleigh, NC; Aunts & Uncles, Bernice Sydnor, James (Mary) Sydnor, Robert (Margaret) Sydnor, Frank (Sandra) Sydnor, Robert (Kathy) Patterson, Oscar (Carol) Patterson. Nieces & Nephews: Afrika Sydnor, Lashawn Pickett, Jennifer Pickett, Casi Harris, Adelyn Harris, Quincy Carter and Brittany Carter; Quincy Pickett, Tre (Ashley) Dodd, Malik Carter, Adren Harris II and Julian Harris; 10 great-nieces & nephews and 3 great-great nieces & nephews; special cousin Sandra Sydnor and a host of other relatives and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held on May 29, 2021 at New Hope Baptist Church at 1:00 pm. Family visitation will be one hour before service, starting at 12:00.
