Daniel J. Burnetter Obituary

COLONIE – Daniel J. Burnetter, 61, of Colonie, passed away on Tuesday morning at St. Peter’s Hospital after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Albany and is the devoted son of Viola K. Ditonno Burnetter and the late John P. Burnetter. Dan was a Senior Investigator with New York Dept. of State where he was known as the “workhorse”. He was married to his “princess” Diane (Jeffords) Burnetter for 37 years. Danny loved everyone and everyone loved him. His raspy voice only spoke kind words.

Dan was a tremendous community volunteer. He shared his time and talent for decades with Boy Scouts, youth sports and his treasured Fire Departments. Dan was a social member at Stanford Heights Fire Dept. He served in many roles at the Midway Fire Dept including Assistant Chief and Commissioner. He was a mentor to many new members in the Department and his willingness to take on any task was truly inspirational. Danny was the four time Chili Cook off Champion. He excelled at community fundraisers and always tried to help anyone in need. Danny enjoyed traveling, camping and spending time with his cherished family. He was an avid fan of the New York Giants and New York Yankees. He was a great Dad and even better Poppy!

In addition to his mother, Danny is the beloved husband of Diane M. Burnetter. He is the cherished father of James (Rachel) Burnetter, William (Sarah) Burnetter and Tracey Burnetter (Markus). Danny is the much loved brother of Kathleen Burnetter (Dan). He is the proud Poppy of Malachi, Daniel (DJ) and Callie.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Dan’s family on Sunday from 1:00 to 4:00 pm a Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Ave., Colonie. Fire Departmental honors will follow at Stanford Heights and Midway Fire Departments. Memorial contributions may be made to Ronald McDonald House, 139 So.
