Leo P. Cox, Esq. 82 of Wall, NJ died May 17, 2021 at Jersey Shore Univ. Medical Center, Neptune, NJ surrounded by his loving family. Born in Hackensack, NJ, Leo lived in Spring Lake, NJ before moving to Wall in 1986. He was a graduate of Notre Dame Law School where he was president of his class for all 3 years. Leo was a former special agent of the FBI serving in the Ohio field office, from 1978 – 1981. He was Assistant Monmouth County Prosecutor where he was a trial attorney and legal instructor at the Monmouth County Police Academy. He also served as Deputy Chief of the Trial Section in the Prosecutor’s office. Mr. Cox was an attorney for the New Jersey Attorney General where he was senior trial attorney for Division of Criminal Justice specializing in the Organized Crime and Racketeering Strike Force in Camden, NJ. Leo was an avid golfer, train collector of Lionel trains, a member of the former Special Agents Association, Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, and the Notre Dame Club where he was former Man of the Year. He was also a parishioner of St. Catharine and St. Margaret Parish, Spring Lake. Leo’s greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Leo is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Sharon Dolan Cox, 4 children, Brendan P. Cox and his wife Christine, Erin E. Knott and her husband Owen, Sean P. Cox and his wife Megann, Eileen E. Silva and her husband Ricardo, 12 grandchildren, Owen Jr, Timothy, Lillian and Addison Knott, Maeve, Brendan and James Cox, Declan, Patrick and Leo Silva, Dylan and Ellis Cox. He also leaves his 4 siblings, Ellen Cox, Terrence Cox, Donald Cox, and Sandra Lattimer and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral Mass will be Monday, May 24, 2021, 10:30 am at St. Catharine Church, 215 Essex Ave., Spring Lake, NJ. Please go directly to the church. Burial will be private for family only. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Leo’s name to Marine Corp Law Enforcement Foundation, 273 Columbus Ave #10, Tuckahoe, NY 10707.
