JJ Jose Amaro Obituary

Juan Jose Amaro, "JJ" went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 in his home surrounded by those who loved him dearly. He was born to Catarino and Gregoria Amaro on March 30, 1951. JJ, the oldest of two, was proud to call San Antonio his home. He attended La Salle High School and graduated from Highlands High School. He met his high school sweetheart Gracie at the age of 15, who would become his wife of almost 50 years. They were blessed with three wonderful children; Graciela, Maricela, and JJ Jr. He went on to become the Vice President of Marketing at BudCo/Silver Eagle from which he retired in 2009. JJ always had a strong sense of loyalty to his community which was clear to anyone who knew him. For a number of years he actively assisted the United Negro College Fund and the National Hispanic College Foundation. He was involved in the YMCA organization and the San Antonio Zulu Commission. He was on the Board of Directors for St. PJ’s Home and created the Broken But Blest nonprofit organization. Still he felt he could do more. And he did. He was on the Board of Trustees for Saws from 1994-2004 and participated in Teletón Navideño. JJ was a "fisher of men," always spreading the Word of God with others. He was involved in the A.C.T.S. retreat movement, his local St. Vincent de Paul and the Knights of Columbus at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church. JJ was a parishioner of Mission Concepción. He cherished memories of vacations in Rockport with family and friends. JJ was preceded in death by his parents Gregoria C. and Catarino Amaro. He is survived by his loving wife Graciela; his children Graciela Amaro-Hanna (Curt), Maricela Caballero (Raul), and JJ Amaro Jr. (Crystal); 8 grandchildren Shelby Hanna, Briana Caballero, Ashley Hanna, Kiara Caballero, Ariana Caballero, Ariel Amaro, Jace Amaro, and Ella Amaro; Sister Marie Navarro and her three children; numerous extended family and many friends.
