Ardith Elaine Rubida, 92, of Elk Point, South Dakota, left for her last away game on Thursday, May 13, 2021, after suffering a fatal stroke. She was surrounded by her loving family. Elaine was born to Ernest and Celia Landers on November 7, 1928. She was raised on a farm near Jefferson, South Dakota and graduated from Jefferson High School. Elaine married Arvin Rubida on September 30, 1947. They later moved to a farm near Elk Point, South Dakota where they raised their family. In 1961, her husband Arvin opened Rubida Insurance and Real Estate, in Elk Point, where she worked with him side by side for many years. Elaine enjoyed playing cards, supporting the Iowa Hawkeyes and playing bingo. On Wednesday afternoons, you could frequently find her at Beano & Sherry’s Casino playing the machines with her sister Lois. Elaine’s real passion was to follow her grandkids and great grandkids in their activities, especially sports. She never missed a game, until she wasn’t able to attend due to COVID restrictions. She was so excited for the graduation of her great grandson, Andrew, and was definitely planning on attending baseball and softball games this summer. For the past year, Elaine was residing at Stony Brook Assisted Living in Dakota Dunes. She would say she was their favorite resident. The staff at Stoney Brook took excellent care of her and made her feel loved daily. Elaine is survived by one daughter, Mary Aldridge of Costa Mesa, California; two sons, Bruce (Kathy) Rubida, Mark (Jackie) Rubida, both of Elk Point; one sister: Lois LaFleur of Jefferson; eleven grandchildren: Heidi (Josh) Nearman, Seth (Corri) Rubida, Karen (Ryan) Schamble, Michael Aldridge, Logan Rubida, Carly (Marty) Pierce, Noah Rubida, Jacob Rubida, and Caitlin Wolf, as well as 13 great grandchildren and a large extended family.
