Ashleigh Blumer Kohlitz Obituary

Kohlitz, Ashleigh Blumer, 34, of Richmond, passed away on May 13, 2021. Ashleigh was preceded in death by her grandfather, Frederick Gordon Blumer; and by both maternal and paternal great-grandparents. She is survived by her husband, Brekan Kohlitz; son, Caden Kohlitz; mother, Cassandra Blumer; father, Robert Blumer Sr.; brother, Robert Blumer Jr.; sister-in-law, Paige Blumer; mother-in-law, PamLynn Kohlitz; father-in-law, Donald Kohlitz; grandparents, Alice Blumer, Mary Jo and Donald Kingsley, James and Diane Dennison; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Ashleigh played collegiate soccer at the University of Richmond and elite travel soccer in northern Virginia during her formative years. She and her husband, Brekan, met during graduate school at the VCU Brandcenter. They were married at St. James’s Episcopal Church, the same church that later held the baptism for their son, Caden. Ashleigh worked for nine years at Capital One, serving as a Brand and HR manager. Ashleigh lived by the Stuart Scott quote, "When you die, it does not mean that you lose to cancer. You beat cancer by how you live, why you live, and in the manner in which you live.” There isn’t a more accurate way to sum up Ashleigh's journey. Ashleigh lived every day to the fullest and even during the hardest of times if you asked Ashleigh how she was, she'd say "I'm doing pretty well.” There were many phrases, mottos and terms to show support for Ashleigh - KickAsh, Love Wins, No One Fights Alone and Don't Give Up, Don't Ever Give Up - and while Ashleigh may no longer be here on earth, it's up to each and every one of us to live up to what each of those means and stands for; that is how everyone can always honor Ash and that is how the #KickAsh spirit will forever live on. Ashleigh was and forever will be an inspiration to everyone she encountered - her courage, determination, strength, love, positivity and bright spirit were second to none. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 21 from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Bliley’s - Central, 3801 Augusta Ave., Richmond, Va. 23230. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 22 at Westhampton Memorial Park, 10000 Patterson Ave., Richmond, Va. 23238. Flowers are welcome, however, memorial contributions may also be made to a Virginia 529 college fund for Caden Kohlitz, Ashleigh’s son, using gift ID E3EO0UG or to The University of Virginia’s Brain Cancer Research Fund in Ashleigh’s honor at: http://get-involved.uvahealth.com/goto/AshleighKohlitz.
