Obituary

Brenda Dyck (nee Dueck) age 61 of Steinbach, MB, passed away peacefully in the care of her family on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 in the comfort of her home. She is survived by her husband Tim Dyck, her children Andrew Dyck (Karen), Mark Dyck, Aubrey Walker (Andrew), her grandchildren Eli, Malachi, and Silas Dyck, as well as her siblings Clarice Kroeker (Bruce), Gloria Wiens (Bernie), Lorraine Klassen (George) and David Des Roches-Dueck (Liberty). She was predeceased by her mother Elizabeth Kroeker, father Cornelius Dueck, granddaughter Selah Dyck, and step-mother Alice Dueck.

Brenda made life-long friendships wherever she lived, spending her growing up years in Kleefeld, Brandon and Boissevain before attending Winkler Bible Institute. It was at Bible school where she met Tim, whom she married on August 23, 1980. She worked diligently to help put Tim through university in Winnipeg, then poured herself into raising their three children. Moving to Landmark, MB with a young family ushered in a time of spiritual growth that cultivated her deepening trust in God. This trust was put into action as she and Tim followed God’s call to serve as missionaries with Wycliffe Bible Translators first in Dallas, TX and later Airdrie, AB. Brenda was grateful to later return close to family in Southern Manitoba and support her husband in his ministry with the Evangelical Mennonite Conference.

Every chapter of Brenda’s life was marked by self sacrifice, the desire to serve others, and obedience to God’s leading. She expressed a curious and creative spirit which she exhibited through painting, writing and making beautiful spaces around her. Encouragement was her spiritual gift, which she best expressed one-on-one as a mentor, mother, grandmother, sibling, friend, and spouse. She never stopped praying for others, even as she faced a terminal diagnosis and was eventually confined to her bed. For all these reasons and more, she is dearly missed.
