Ruth Steadman Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Ruth Steadman announces her passing on May 14, 2021 at the age of 89.  Ruth was a longtime Wellston resident born in Shelly, Idaho to Vessie Viola and Francis Leo Barrows on April 13, 1932.  She had 2 older and 7 younger siblings: Betty Jean Lorraine, Nina, twins, Connie Mae and Francis Jay, Leon Landon, Lamar, Dee, Gary Lee, and Ronald Max.  Ruth graduated from West Seattle High School in 1951.  She was married to Jake H. Stewart on April 26, 1954 in Tacoma, Washington and raised 3 children together.

Ruth was an avid crafter, reader, and music lover.  She was a passionate volunteer at Wellston Elementary, Wellston Community Library, the Thrift Store in Chandler, and worked at TG&Y for over 25 years.  She helped the Wellston Elementary Library win a $600 prize from KFOR.

Ruth is survived by her children, Richard and his wife Tammy Stewart of McLoud, Deby Gregg and her husband David of Denver, Kathe Schmidt and her husband Jimmie of Wellston; brother, Ron Barrows of Basalt, Idaho; ex-husband, Jake Stewart of Wellston; (11) grandchildren; (18) great-grandchildren; (5) great-great-grandchildren; along with plenty of nieces, nephews, friends, and life acquaintances.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at the Lehman Funeral Home Chapel in Wellston officiated by Reverend Roy Hayes.  Her family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Jordan and Aaron with Excel Hospice for their compassionate care and love for their mother and grandmother.  Arrangements are under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
