Lester Hankerson Jr Obituary

Lester Hankerson Jr was born August 30, 1953 to the loving parents of Lester Hankerson, Sr and Barbara Hankerson in Cincinnati, Ohio. Preceding him in death were both of his parents. He received his wings on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at 8:02pm at the Christ Hospital SICU.

Lester served in the Military in the US Navy from March 1971 to March 1973. Lester was a gentle spirit with the gift of laughter and an extra ordinary smile. We will all remember his love for and the ability to make a HAMMOND B3 organ scream like no other. Lester also mentored many musicians with grace. Lester was the organist for many churches around the city. The late great Dr Charles Fold loved Hank (Lester) and was proud of him accompanying him on the Grammy Award winning song "Lord Let Me Be An Instrument" in 1981.

Lester married Fannie Jackson on January 13, 2007. To this union 1 child was born. Lester confessed Christ in his adult years. Lester played for several churches such as First New Shiloh, Inspirational Baptist Church, Lincoln Heights Baptist, New Prospect and then Galilee Baptist Church where he played the Hammond Organ until his health would no longer let him.

He leaves to cherish his memory a loving and caring wife Fannie Hankerson. 1 brother David Hankerson and 1 sister Dee Dee Shelton. 8 daughters and 7 sons Antwanetta Vinson (Ron), Karen Hankerson, Sharon Hankerson-Johnson, Charisse Averett, Lester Hankerson III, Shawn Cornist, Keon Hankerson, Shantel Hankeron, Dante Hankerson, Tiesha Hankerson, Brendon Hudson, Danae Hankerson, LaDon Hankerson, Devonte Hankerson and Maria Jackson.  27 Grandkids and 2 Great Grand kids. Two longtime friends but more like his other brother and sister Vincent and Sonia Jennings. A care provider, whom he loved like family, Theamonie Nared (Moni). His cook and friend Ella Durant and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
