Albert Schaff was born in Mandan, ND, to Jacob and Josephine (Geiger) Schaff on February 21, 1938. He was the sixth of seven children born to them. Albert attended St. Joseph Catholic School and Mandan High School, graduating in 1956. In December of 1961 he entered the military and became a medic to help his fellow men. He received many honors, one of them for being a sharpshooter. He was honorably discharged on September 18, 1963.

Albert returned home to Mandan and shortly after was employed as a clerk by the Northern Pacific Railroad and then Burlington Northern Railroad until his retirement in 1998.

Albert was a lifelong member of the Eagles, Elks and Legion. He was a very enthusiastic hunter and went on many hunting trips for deer with his buddies for many years. Albert spent many of his vacation days hunting. He was also an avid fisherman. He and his brother, Joe, would take the boat on the river relaxing in the sunshine, or go for drives just to see the countryside. Almost every morning he went to coffee with friends to catch up on the news. If there was a family event, he was always present.

Albert loved his vegetable garden and kept it neat and free from weeds. He always had plenty of produce to share with friends, family, and neighbors. Albert loved to play pranks and was the family jokester. He also loved to play cards.

Grateful to have shared in his life is his sister, Wilhelmina (Minnie) Mizera; and many nieces and nephews.

Albert was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Josephine Schaff; brothers, Joseph, Julius, and Florian Schaff; and sisters, Florentine Kuntz and Regina Landeis.
