Charlie Gene Wilson Obituary

Charlie Gene Wilson, age 82 of Richmond, KY passed away peacefully surrounded by family in Lexington, on May 11, 2021. Born on August 6, 1938 in Fayette County on the historic Isaac Shelby Land Farm, Charlie was a twin whose sister died at birth. He was preceded in death by his father, Layton Thomas Wilson and his mother, Virdia Ruth Hutchins as well as his brothers, Thomas, Carl, and Porter. Growing up as the youngest of four boys, Charlie spent many happy years working on the farm with his family and extended family. He developed a life-long love for farming and especially mules and gardening. As a young man he worked for the State Highway Department and later moved into banking where he retired from First Southern National Bank. Charlie had a strong faith and a firm conviction that he was called to help others. For many years, he was the leading fundraiser for various local charities and was always willing to help others in need. Charlie enjoyed manning the down markers for Madison Central High School, chaperoned numerous high school dances and church youth group trips. He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy Withrow, his daughters Tammy Penkalski (Josh), Terry McCarley, and Toni Fisher (Myron). He was the proud grandfather of Page Harman (Joe), Mary Alice Daniels (Aulander), Henry Schrader, Sarah Hull (Josh), Eric Delaney, and Ben Fisher (Sidney). One of his greatest joys in life was being Papa to his great grandchildren, Aulander IV, Hays, Addie, Anderson, Emerson, Alexis, Kayden, and Aubree. He also leaves behind his beloved nieces and nephews as well as a host of friends. He will be remembered for his infectious laugh and his strong love for his family and friends. Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Monday, May 17, 2021 at The First Baptist Church with Rev. John Ward and Rev. Bill Wright officiating. Burial will follow at Madison Memorial Gardens. The family will receive relatives and friends beginning at 11:00 A.M. on Monday at the church. Social distancing practices will be observed. Pallbearers will be Ben Fisher, Henry Schrader, Joe Harman, Aulander Daniels, Josh Hull, and Walt Wilson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jess Correll, Jeff Roach, Clint Padgett, and Eric Delaney In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to First Baptist Church Benevolence Fund, 425 Eastern Bypass, Richmond, KY 40475.
