Marvin Taylor Sr.

<p><strong>Mr. Marvin Taylor Sr.,</strong> age 83, transitioned into eternal rest on Wednesday, May 12, 2021, at Westfield Rehabilitation and Health Center in Sanford, NC.</p> <p>Marvin Taylor Sr. (Sonny Boy) was born July 25th, 1937, to John Purcell and Juanita Taylor. He was raised by his great-grandmother Laura Griffin aka &ldquo;Big Ma&rdquo;. He had five sisters and one brother. He attended school in Sanford, North Carolina. After completing the 8th grade, he went to work helping his family on their farm. He married Alice Deloris Taylor in June of 1961 in Baltimore, Maryland. Marvin received his CDLs and began his career driving coal trucks. Not long after he began driving long distance for Bracken Steel, Raeford Trucking Company and Goodwin Trucking. Marvin drove trucks for over 60 years and was given the CB handle &ldquo;root doctor&rdquo;. He received the &ldquo;Best Truck Driver&rdquo; award from Goodwin Trucking for his safe driving, dedication and hard work throughout his career.</p> <p>Marvin loved to joke and watch westerns like &ldquo;Cheyenne&rdquo;, &ldquo;Gunsmoke&rdquo; and &ldquo;Lone Ranger&rdquo;. Sitting around with his lovely wife talking and reminiscing was the highlight of his day. He enjoyed a good breakfast with coffee and good conversation with his boys at the Truck Stop,&nbsp; Jim&rsquo;s Restaurant and Tramway Diner. He was a member of the I.B.P.O.E.W (Elks Lodge #688) and received the Lifetime Achievement Award for his many years of service and commitment to the security lodge. He was a member of New Zion Church.
