Oscar Miguel Pereda Obituary

Oscar Miguel Pereda, 66, of Winston-Salem, NC went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 12, 2021. Oscar was born in Lima, Peru, to the late José Pereda and Armanda Moreno. He became a Christian while attending medical school in Argentina—an encounter and decision that would change the course of his life forever. He remained a proud Peruvian, though his ministry led him to Argentina, Paraguay, and eventually the United States. He met his wife, Myriam, during his missionary work in Paraguay, and they married in 1985. He was a pioneer in South America for Christ and the Church of the Nazarene. He served as district superintendent in Paraguay for 16 years before he felt the call to become a missionary to the Hispanic population in the US. In the early 2000s, he began to build the Hispanic ministries in the North Carolina district of the Church of the Nazarene from the ground up and served as district Hispanic Ministries Coordinator until his death. While being an accomplished minister, to support his family, he worked a second job as a valet parker at Wake Forest Baptist Health, where he shared his faith by his example to all those he met. His family remembers him for his deep, sacrificial love for them; perseverance and patience through all the struggles of his life; and his good sense of humor, even though the battle with cancer would claim his earthly life. His memoirs can be found in his recent book, Gracias Dios por el Cancer (Thank you God for the Cancer). This book, written by his beloved wife, shows the frailty of human nature and the faith that can be found in a sovereign God. If you are interested in purchasing the book, it can be found on Amazon (English translation coming soon): https://www.amazon.com/Gracias-Dios-por-c%C3%A1ncer-devolvi%C3%B3/dp/B093T26MSJ/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=gracias+dios+por+el+cancer&qid=1620934477&sr=8-1 He is survived by his wife Myriam Pereda; his three children, Cristian (Yanira) Pereda of Pfafftown; Keren (Robert) Ferris of Clemmons; and Micael (Libby) Pereda of Westminster, Maryland; his grandchildren, Cristian Gabriel Pereda, Daniel Isaac Pereda, Olivia Grace Ferris, and Raphael Oscar Pereda; and his siblings, Maria (Horacio) Castañeda of Tarrytown, NY, Luz (Jacinto) Pera of Ossining, NY, and Max (Lucy) Pereda of Winston-Salem; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. The family wants to extend their thanks to the NC District Church of the Nazarene, Superintendent Greg Mason and pastors, and sister churches for their self-giving love in these last difficult days and over the years. The palliative care team at Wake Forest Baptist Health and Trellis Supportive Care, for their support over the last 10 months of Oscar’s life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Oscar’s honor to their GoFundMe page in support of the training and development of Hispanic leaders in the NC District Church of the Nazarene memorials may be sent to NC Hispanic Ministries, 2521 Atwood Rd, Winston Salem, NC 27103 or online at https://www.gofundme.com/f/nc-hispanic-ministry?utm_source=customer&utm_medium=copy_link&utm_campaign=p_cf+share-flow-1 Oscar Miguel Pereda, de 66 años, de Winston-Salem, Carolina del Norte, se fue a casa para estar con su Señor y Salvador el miércoles 12 de mayo de 2021.
