fFOGARTY, John Edward, “Jack” 1924-2021. He loved sacrificially. The Lord called our family patriarch home in a peaceful manner, with his family by his side, on Monday, May 10, 2021 in his 96th year. Born in Manhattan, New York, July 22, 1924, he was the son of the late James and Mary (McGinness) Fogarty. Jack was pre-deceased by his loving wife of 43 years, Virginia Rose (Compton) Fogarty. His faith, love and compassion etched a permanent mark on our hearts. He will be missed forever by his children Kevin, Barbara (Dan), Brian, Keith, Kerry (Kathy) and Jean Marie (Bob), as “Jackie” joyfully joins his beloved Virginia. After the passing of his wife, Jack spent countless years assisting with the needs of his family by visiting for extended periods of time at each of his children’s homes on both the east and west coasts. Those memories will forever shape our heritage. He is proud grandfather to Brian, Jennifer (David), Anne Marie (Jeff), Maureen (Jim), Michael (Vanessa), Vanessa, Valery, Patrick, John, Kyle (Courtney), Michael, Kaitlyn, Gabrielle, Rori and John. They will miss his gentle eyes and warm smile. He has been an unequaled spiritual force in their lives. He cherished his role of great-grandfather to Anna, Colby, Sheala, Brendon, Noah, Alyssa, Raina, Abigail, Aidan, Aiden F, Victoria, Grayson, Liam, Harper, and Amelia Elizabeth. He will watch over them forever. Jack was a faithful, dedicated, and hard-working family man, serving the people of the city he loved, and retiring from the NYC Transit Authority. He proudly served more than two tours as a torpedoman on the USS John D. Henley and Destroyer Squadron 51 throughout the Pacific-Asian Theater. Later in life, he enjoyed daily breakfasts with his friends Joe and Ernie and sailed on over thirty pleasure cruises with family and friends, where he humbly revisited every port that his naval task force entered during WWII. In addition to his wife, he was pre-deceased by his loving daughter-in-law, Josephine, his sisters, Eileen, Dorothy, Joan, Anna, and Mary, sister-in-law, Helen, his brothers, James, Marty, Pete, Thomas, and William, and his brothers-in-law, Tom, Eddie, Frank, and Arthur. Uncle Jackie will also be dearly missed by his many nieces and nephews. Jack will be remembered for his unconditional love, deep faith, lucidity, quick wit, political acumen, and his ability to always embrace adversity. With heavy hearts we rejoice that he is now with Mom. We will always celebrate their lives and take solace in knowing that they are once again united in heaven and watching over us. While his voice will be missed, we know his faithful perseverance and the love he taught us will never fail. Family will be received at McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Jct. N.Y. 12533 on Friday, May 14, 2021 from 9-11 am. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Church, 1925 Route 82, Lagrangeville, N.Y. 12540 at 11:30 am.
