Eileen M Faas-Landry Obituary

Eileen Mary Faas-Landry was a loving wife, mother, oma, and friend. She passed away on Monday, May 3, 2021, at her home in Stafford, CT, surrounded by her husband and children, after battling cancer for nearly two years with extraordinary courage, optimism, and grace. She was 63 years old. Eileen was born on June 13, 1957, in Hartford and lived in many towns in Hartford County, including Simsbury where she attended high school and Suffield where she spent over two decades. She met her future husband, Donald, in spring 1978—Donald picked Eileen up while she was hitchhiking to work. They had a Christmas wedding in 1983 and over the years they had three children. Eileen worked her entire career at a small credit union in Hartford. For the last couple years, she enjoyed the view from her home on Staffordville Lake; she and her husband would bird watch and observe the antics of the many squirrels that dined in their yard. Eileen found joy all around her: flowers, especially roses; looking for mushrooms and salamanders in the woods as a young girl; walks with her dogs; exploring old houses; watching football; books, especially fantasy; family vacations to Holden Beach and Cape Cod; beach days at Watch Hill. And above all, her greatest joy in life was her family and dogs. She will be remembered by her uncontrollable and infectious laughter, her sense of wonder, her ability to have a conversation with any person she met, and her unwavering insistence that the small scar across her throat was from being kidnapped by pirates. Eileen is mourned by her husband, Donald; children, Allison (Suffield, CT), Jonathan and his wife, Erin (Hamden, MA), and Stephanie (Washington, DC); granddaughters, Ashlyn and Ella; brother, John (Windsor, CT); and dogs, Remy and Brew. She was predeceased by her parents, Paul Duane Faas (1986) and Marguerite Ann (Phelps) Faas (2005); an aunt, Eileen B. Phelps (2012); and her brother, Paul Dwight Faas (2020). A celebration of life will be held on her birthday, June 13th, at the Picnic Pavilion at Stratton Brook State Park in Simsbury, CT beginning at 1pm.
