Wendall B Libby

Wendall Libby Whiting Wendall B. Libby, 75, went to be with his Lord May 3, 2021. He was born July 23, 1945 to Dexter and Eleanor Libby. He grew up in Machiasport, the youngest of 5 children. Wendall graduated from Washington Academy in 1964 and Northern Maine vocational in Presque Isle in 1966. He then proudly served his country for 4 years in the Air Force. He retired from the Postal Service after 35 years, many of those as Postmaster in East Machias. He was a faithful member of Machias Valley Baptist Church where he served as treasurer and trustee. His church family held a special place in his heart. He loved all sports but particularly basketball. He was inducted into the Washington Academy Hall of Fame in 2018. He looked forward to basketball season every year and never missed a game. He is predeceased by his sister Carol Colbeth and brothers Harland Libby and Donald Libby. He is survived by a special brother Breen Libby of Machiasport and his wife Joan. He is also survived by his wife of 52 years, Linda (Vane) Libby and 2 sons and their families, Steven and Carol and children Leah and Paul, and Michael and Cami and children Haley, Avery, and Eric. Dear friends that were like family include David and Vonnie Hopkins. He was Gramp to his grandchildren, who meant the world to him. He looked forward to their times together at the lake. He could be found going for walks with his grandson Paul, playing basketball with his granddaughter Leah, fishing with his grandson Eric, and 4- wheeling with his granddaughter Avery. He was proud of granddaughter Haley’s accomplishments as a student at University of Maine, Orono. Wendall was a kind, faithful, and respected man who exemplified what a husband, father, brother, and friend should be. He will be missed by all who knew him. There will be no visiting hours. A family graveside service will be planned at a later date. Arrangements are being made by McClure Family Funeral Home.
