Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 8, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Hatton. A visitation will be held Friday, May 7, 2021 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at the church.</p> <p>Susan Lynn Balstad was born March 1, 1952 in Northwood to Martin and Ellen (Lykken) Balstad. She grew up in Hatton and graduated from Hatton High School. On July 16, 1971, Sue married her high school sweetheart, Darold Mattern. She worked various jobs in Hatton including the lefse factory. Sue and Darold moved to Barnesville, MN where she cleaned houses until they retired and moved back to Hatton in 2015. Sue enjoyed gardening, planting flowers, cooking, decorating for Christmas but most of all, she loved spending time with family.</p> <p>Survivors include her husband, Darold, Hatton; sons: Shayne (fiancé, Amber Dahl), Fargo, ND; Jeremy, Gardner, ND; grandson, Connor Jenkins; brother, Marlin (Diane) Balstad; sisters: Loretta (John) Sherva, Linda (Denny) Gabriel, Julie (Terry) McNea; special niece, Shaylee Smith. Sue is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.</p> <p>Preceding her in death were her parents, mother-in-law, Marie Mattern; brothers-in-law, Jerry Zimprich and Craig Mattern; and nephew, Kevin Sherva.</p>Obituary
