Lawrence F. Wilmer Obituary

Lawrence Frederick Wilmer, 79 years old, of Laurel, Maryland, came to rest on April 28, 2021. Lawrence was born on March 31, 1942, to Calvin and Mary Ellen Wilmer.  After graduating from Kennard High School, in 1960, he ventured outside of his hometown, working various jobs until he obtained a position as an X-ray Tech at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland.  There, he met Elaine Grunder, and they wed on November 17, 1973.  Over the next several years, they grew their family with three children, Lisa Scott, Christina Patel and Calvin Wilmer.  Lawrence was determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved.  He served as a deputy sheriff with the Howard County Sheriff's Department for 19 years.  After his career in law enforcement, he supported the community driving buses for Montgomery County Public School System.  In 2010, Lawrence retired, spent time with family and enjoyed hobbies. Lawrence didn't sit still!!  He was up daily, before sunrise, enjoying his jog, grabbing his cup of coffee or taking a ride across the Bay Bridge to shoot the breeze with his brother, Earl.  He fancied cars and motorcycles; buying, repairing, and selling them, as well as, making them look pretty.  He took pride in a manicured yard, which carried over into his lawn care business, which he had for nearly 10 years. He loved a good fight during his favorite Bruce Lee movies and shouted "I'm a bad man" as he never got tired of watching Muhammad Ali.  Lawrence had a sparkle in his eye when it came to music...Elvis, James Last, Diana Ross and Prince to name a few.  He was a social man who like a good laugh, trash talking hand of cards and discovered cruises were his thing. Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, as well as siblings, Calvin Freeman, Jr., Kenneth Lee, Earl Thomas, Charles Donald and Mary Evelyn. Lawrence is survived by his wife, Elaine Wilmer; his children and their spouses, Lisa Scott, Christina Patel (Tesh), Calvin (Kandi), Shonta Bell, Sonya Jarrett and Lawrence, Jr.; grandchildren, Curtesia Dixon, Cornell Dixon, Carlton Dixon, Lexio Scott, Evan Wilmer, Corey Dixon, Raven Bell, Jeremiah Wilmer, Javin Wilmer, Milana Scott, Davonte Wilmer, Braelyn Brown, Ethan Patel, Briley Foltz, Maddox Patel, Kaelyn Wilmer and Kyleigh Wilmer; sisters, Patricia Mason and Kerry Jean Davis; brothers, Allan Herring (Rosie), John Watkins (Lolita) and Neil Thomas; and many loved ones.  Lawrence, you will be missed! We love you!
