Bonnie Thurmond Beals

Bonnie Lou (Thurmond) Beals, 85, of Mattoon, Ill., passed away at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 27, 2017, at Mattoon Healthcare. Mass of Christian burial will begin at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, June 2, 2017, at Schilling Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Dodge Grove Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home. Bonnie was born on January 24, 1932 in Holland, Mich., the daughter of Frederick and Ruth (Wagner) Warmelink. She married Roy Eugene Thurmond on June 24, 1949, in Harrisburg, Ill. He preceded her in death on August 10, 1974. She married Charles Duane Beals on February 16, 1980. He preceded her in death on April 24, 2004. Survivors include her daughter, Nancy Jean Purdy of Mattoon, Ill.; son, Roy Frederick (Doris) Thurmond of Salem, Ill; grandchildren, Jess Thurmond of Gays, Ill, Ryan (Trisha) Purdy of Lombard, Ill., Sean (Sarah) Purdy of Evanston, Ill, Neil Purdy of Pensacola, Fla., Jayme Thurmond of Salem, Ill., and Elizabeth Thurmond of Salem, Ill; step grandchildren, Melita (Tony) Trousdale of Louisville, Ill. and Moria Jones of Clay City, Ill.; 8 step great-grandchildren,; sisters, Barbara Wegner of Dyer, Ind., and Martha (Don) Doffin of Schereville, Ind.; brothers, Ronald Warmelink of Seymour, Ind., John Warmellink, David (Patricia) Warmelink, and Michael (Annette) Warmelink, all of Crown Point, Ind; and sister-in-law, Lorraine Warmelink of St. John, Ind., and long-time friend and co-worker Evelyn Hood of Mattoon, Ill. Bonnie was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Warmelink, and two sisters-in-law Gail Warmelink and Jan Warmelink. Bonnie was a Coil Operator at General Electric for 25 years before retiring. She had also been a Girl Scout Leader, Assistant Boy Scout Leader, 4-H Leader, Substitute Teacher, and kitchen worker in the Mattoon school district. Bonnie was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and Ladies of the Moose. Bonnie cherished spending time with her family and friends and working in her flower gardens. She touched the lives of many people and will be greatly missed by all those who knew her. Memorial donations are suggested to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinsons Research or Lincolnland Hospice of Mattoon, Ill.
