Delbert Thompson

Delbert Thompson passed away on March 30, 2021 in Vancouver, WA at the age of 93 Delbert Thompson was born in Skiatook, Oklahoma to parents David and Maude (Sweitzner) Thompson on January 29th, 1928. Delbert was brother to six other siblings. Delbert graduated the 8th grade as valedictorian of Osage County then went to work in the fields to help support the family. Delbert and Lucille “Toby” Wood were married September 29, 1948, in Caldwell, Idaho Delbert served in the US Navy in the South Pacific from 1946-1947 following the conclusion of WWII. He would tell of when he was in the Navy their ship was off the Bikini Atoll islands when nuclear testing was done; they could feel the heat from the blast as they stood on deck...he would tell people that was why he didn’t have wrinkles or look his age. Delbert’s lifelong career was in the lumber industry where he served as a mill worker. Delbert will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great grandfather. He was a bit of a jokester and was very musical. He would tease little kids and talk like Donald Duck to them to see their reactions; he picked guitar and sang with family and friends; it made him very happy to see some of his grandchildren and great grandchildren interested in picking the guitar and singing. At times, Delbert could be stubborn and had a temper if it was called for. Delbert is preceded in death by his loving spouse, Lucille “Toby” Thompson; parents, David Beecher and Maude Mae (Sweitzner) Thompson; siblings, Web Thompson, Frankie Warren, Jessie Lovitt, Connie Allen, Barb Long; grandson, Steven A Thompson; and great-grandson, Josiah Thompson. Delbert is survived by his sister Norma Obendorf; daughter, Carolyn Hatcher; son, Rick Thompson; 8 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren Delbert will be laid to rest at Willamette National Cemetery of Happy Valley, OR
