Margaret Jones Clapp Obituary

Margaret Jane Jones Clapp died peacefully on Friday, December 11, 2015 after a brief illness. Familiarly known to all by "Sis", she was the devoted wife of 54 years of William Ellsworth Clapp, loving mother of William Edward Clapp (Margaret Corey Clapp) of Branford and Margaret Clapp Frazier (Donald Hoagland Frazier) of Reston, Virginia, loving sister of Mary Elizabeth Sola of New York, NY, grandmother of Nathaniel A. Bloom, William D. Clapp, Andrew C. Frazier, Alyson L. Frazier, and Lauren Frazier Rowe, aunt and great aunt to many. She graduated from Southern Connecticut State Teachers College and taught for over 50 years in the Branford public school system. She was a champion of children and saw teaching not as a job but as a vocation. Sis was a masterful knitter who gave away hundreds of afghans and sweaters over the years. Known for her wit, generosity, and devotion to the New York Yankees, she was a proud lifelong resident of Branford and communicant of St. Mary's Church. She was predecessed by her parents, Charles Edward Jones and Elizabeth Malone Jones, sister Barbara Jones Crimmins, and favorite aunt Margaret Jones Shaughnessy. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 21st at St. Mary Church in Branford. Burial following the Mass will be at St. Agnes Cemetery. The family wishes to thank the ICU staff of St. Raphael's Hospital and the Connecticut Hospice for their dedicated expertise. Special thanks go also to the family's many caring friends and neighbors.
