GLOUCESTER - Doris E. (Clifford) (Latham) Laubenstein, 98, a life-long resident of Gloucester passed away Saturday evening, April 17, 2021 at Gloucester Healthcare. She was the wife of the late Everett B. Latham and Charles J. Laubenstein. Born in Gloucester, she was the daughter of the late George and Nellie (Hilton) Clifford. She was a graduate of Gloucester High School with the class of 1940. In 1943 she continued her education by training at the RN School of Nursing at Addison Gilbert Hospital and graduated with her diploma in 1946. Mrs. Laubenstein worked as a Registered Nurse on the maternity ward at Addison Gilbert Hospital for thirty-eight years. She truly loved working there and always beamed when she talked about caring for all the mothers and their babies. She also had a civil service job in Boston with the Fish & Wildlife Service for many years. In her later years she enjoyed singing with the group from the Rose Baker Senior Center, which was led by Jay Zee. Doris had been a member of the First Baptist Church in Gloucester since the age of five. As an active member of the church, she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, and served on many different committees. She is survived by one son, Dennis Latham and his wife Patricia of Gloucester; one daughter, Denise Ekborg and her husband Dennis of St. Johnsbury, VT; three grandchildren, Jessica Mello, Jacqueline Latham and Benjamin Ekborg; two great grandchildren, Sadie and Colby Mello and her blended family with her second husband Charlie. She was also predeceased by four sisters, Beatrice Wallace, Madeline Larsen, Mildred Ellis and Helen Adams, one brother, Everett B. Clifford as well as two grandchildren, John Michael Ekborg and Jillian Latham. The family would like to send a special thank you to her niece Charlotte Dodge, her nephew Steve Adams and his wife Helenann, her nieces Julie Heines and Marilyn Brophy and her husband Tom for their love and support. Her funeral service will be held at the First Baptist Church, 38 Gloucester Avenue, Gloucester on Friday, April 23, 2021 at 11 AM. Please observe Covid- 19 Protocols. Burial at Beech Grove Cemetery, Rockport. In lieu of flowers, donations in Doris’ name may be made to First Baptist Church, Gloucester.
