Jean Ramirez Patchogue, New York Obituary

Jean Ramirez

Following in the footsteps of her beloved mother, Jean Ramirez, 61, who herself was a mother to all who knew her, passed away Friday, February 12, 2021. With a heart too big for this world yet too wonderful for words, Jean leaves behind a loving brother, sisters, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends too numerous to name. She was predeceased by sister, Jan Ramirez.

To know Jean and to be touched by her gentle kindness was to know what God intended when he told his people to love each other. There is no heart left unbroken in her wake, and the grieving family wishes to share their condolences with all those who also ache in their loss of Jeannie’s laughter and light.

Born in Bellport, NY, Jean is remembered as someone who loved all, with true patience and without judgment or bias. Through her life and her actions, Jean taught those around her what it is to be kind and compassionate, and that joy can be found in always having room for more chairs at the family dinner table.

Some of Jean’s proudest accomplishments included graduating from Dowling College with an MBA in 1998, and establishing a successful, tenured career as a business manager at Brookhaven National Lab since 1980. Her status as the Ramirez Family Factbook, with her unparalleled knowledge of the family tree and the histories of its members dating back to the 1800s, will be a heavy loss to those that appreciated her deep commitment to the meaning of family.

For the nieces and nephews who counted the title of “aunt” to be on par with that of “mom,” no college semester could begin without a batch of Aunt Jeannie’s freshly baked homemade cookies, made to be shared among new friends and provide a reminder of the home and family waiting in Bellport. Refills available upon request and return of Tupperware containers.

After the pandemic, Jean had dreamed of traveling the world with her sisters and best friends. Without her, the Ramirez family will keep her spirit alive when they decorate Christmas trees in her memory each year, when they feed squirrels in their gardens, and when they gather to remember the true light Jean brought into their lives, which can never be diminished, even after her departure.

Jean succumbed to complications related to COVID pneumonia at Long Island Community Hospital. Services will be held at Ruland Funeral in Patchogue, NY, on Friday, February 19, for both Jean and her mother, Edith. A funeral mass will follow at The Parish Family of Mary Immaculate in Bellport on Saturday morning at 10 a.m.

In lieu of food or flowers, please consider donations in the names of Jean and Edith Ramirez to a charity of your choosing. Obituary

The Ramirez family humbly recommends the below:

-Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research
-Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Research Foundation
