Andrew C. Yianakopolos, of Goffstown, New Hampshire passed away on Saturday April 17, 2021. Andy died peacefully in Concord, New Hampshire with his beloved wife of 65 years, Marilyn, by his side. He was 87. Andy was born on January 29, 1934 in Manchester, NH to Simone and Andreas Yianakopolos. The son of a Greek immigrant, Andy learned that rising early and working hard was the way to get ahead in life. He served our country during the Korean Conflict, based in England. When he returned home he married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn (Smith). Andy and Marilyn lived in Hooksett for 21 years where they raised their four children. He began his long career in construction at Manchester Sand & Gravel, later becoming General Superintendent for Audley Construction. In the late 70's Andy co-founded Mid State Construction and later grew the family business, Superior Excavating, with his son David. Andy retired in 2002 and he and Marilyn moved to Florida, followed by a stay in North Carolina before returning to New Hampshire in 2009. Friends and family will remember Andy for his quick wit and his ability to spar with engineers but never hold a grudge. He was active in the American Legion, rising to Commander of Post 37 in Hooksett, NH. Andy is predeceased by his daughter, Brenda Jo, his brothers Robert and Paul of Goffstown. He is survived by his wife Marilyn, Sister Pat of Goffstown, Brother Daniel of Manchester, children Lynn (and Michael Hodgdon) of Huntersville, North Carolina, David of Hooksett and Stephen (and Dennie) of Hopkinton. Andy and Marilyn have 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at Westlawn Cemetery in Goffstown at 12:30pm on Thursday April 22, 2021.
