Robert Lowell Heisel Obituary

Robert (Bob) Lowell Heisel, a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend passed away unexpectedly on June 17, 2021.  Bob was born to Oma and Phillip Heisel in Wessington Springs, SD where he lived until he joined the air in 1950.  He and served active duty for 20 years and civil service for an additional 8 years.  On December 29, 1955 Bob married Elaine Rabern and they began their travels around the world, being stationed in a number of countries and states.  During this time, they were blessed with 3 daughters.  Bob and Elaine celebrated 60 years of marriage until her passing in 2015. Bob had a love for traveling, exploring, and “tinkering” with anything mechanical.  In 1971 their travels brought Bob and his family through Oregon’s Santiam Pass, and this is where he knew he needed to be. He and Elaine stopped at a local reality office, Fleming and Bergby, and found 30 acres of property to purchase.  Bob and Elaine finally made the move to Oregon in 1979 after fully retiring from the Air Force.  After retiring to Oregon Bob found his passion for real estate.  He purchased and managed several properties that kept him busy doing everything from bucking hay, planting trees, drilling wells to building structures.  He also had to tinker with all the equipment needed to keep him busy.  Bob continued to find time to travel and eventually discovered Arizona where he spent over 30 winters exploring, gold mining and enjoying life.  Bob always said he never worked harder before he retired.  Bob could never be idle and even though he slowed down he continued to work on something until the day he died. Bob is survived by his daughters, Sherrii (Grant) Williams, Shelly Heisel (Dan) Flagg and Seantel (Doug) Heisel; 11 grandchildren, Anthony Ward, Aaron Connor, Jeana Heisel, Eric Weddle, Phillip Heisel, Katherine Heisel, Sarah Flagg, Michael Flagg, Christopher Williams, Kelcey May,  Wendy O'Hagan-Albay and Mallory Williams; 4 great grandchildren; his sister Maggie Doering; his brothers Clea and Jerry Heisel; numerous nieces and nephews; and many loving friends.  Bob will be interred at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis South Dakota at a later date.  A celebration of life will be scheduled for family and friends later this summer.  The family would appreciate honoring Bob through contributions to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Charitable Service Trust (https://cst.dav.org/).
