Judy Morisset

Judith Ann “Judy” (Mackey) Morisset, 84, of Ozark, MO, departed her earthly life, Sunday, April 18, 2021, in her home with family near her side. She was born in Rome, MO, April 2, 1937, the fourth child of seven to Durward and Ruby (Sturman) Mackey. Attending Walnut Grove, a two-room country school, near Smallett, MO, was part of Judy’s formative years of elementary education. She attended Ava High School her Freshman/Sophomore years, but completed her Junior/Senior years at the School of the Ozarks (S of O) High School, Point Lookout, MO, graduating in the Class of 1955. Upon graduation, Judy began her working career with Kraft Foods, Inc., Springfield, MO from 1955-1963. While at Kraft, she met her handsome “prince charming”, Leroy. They were married April 22, 1956. To this union, two children were born, Michael Leroy and Carrie Beth. To further her education, Judy attended clothing classes thru the University of Missouri Extension Office, Ozark, and became an exemplary seamstress and tailor. Other accomplishments she achieved were: provided childcare services in her home for over 50+ children; co-operated custom hay hauling; co-owned Rolling Acres Mobile Home Park, Ozark; 4-H Leader, and a Christian County Supervisory Election Judge. Along with their children, who were members of the Bi-Centennial Salute to America Singers 4-H Group (1975-1976), they traveled the U.S. and visited the communist country of Romania for one month. She was also employed for 15 1/2 years at the Ozark Walmart as the Manager of the Fabric/Crafts Department from which she retired. Beginning November, 2014, another mastery of talent which Judy enjoyed was making lap quilts (100 +), along with other ladies from the Ozark First Baptist Church to be distributed to shut-ins and residents of the Ozark Baptist Home along with other Nursing/Assisted Living Facilities. Judy made a profession of faith in Christ at the Free Methodist Church Brush Arbor Revival, and was baptized in Beaver Creek, in Rome, MO. She was a faithful member of Ozark First Baptist Church and attended regularly until her health prevented her from attending. Judy and Leroy were avid sports fans, especially watching their grandchildren, nieces and nephews play softball, baseball and basketball in Arkansas, and supporting those same sports within Southwest Missouri. In 1977, Judy, along with her brother, Nelson, were honored to receive the School of the Ozarks Alumni Association Meritorious Achievement Award Certificate of Recognition. Judy was always proud to share that she had never missed a Homecoming from 1955 thru 2019. Judy was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Leroy; five brothers: James Arthur, Ray Harlin, David Sturman, Franklin D. and Durward Nelson Mackey; brothers-in-law: Richard Lee Morisset and Marvin Chance; nephews: Richard Lee “Rick” Morisset, Randy Lynn Morisset, and Gregory Alan Mackey. Judy is survived by her son, Michael Leroy, Springfield, MO; daughter, Carrie Beth (Nathan) Bowie; grandson, Shawn Marshal Bowie, all of Greenbrier, AR; granddaughter, Katherine (Mason) Hudson and great-grandson, George Barrett Hudson age 1 year 7 months, Searcy, AR; sister, Ruby Jane (Larry) Burton, Ozark, MO; sisters-in-law, Louise Mackey, Independence, MO; Joyce Mackey, Ozark, MO; Judith Marie “Judy Mac” Mackey, Prairie Grove, AR; Barbara Chance, Ava, MO; S of O High School roommate, and long time friend, Gussie (Elmer) Redfearn; numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Sunday, April 25, 2021, at Ozark First Baptist Church, Ozark, Mo, under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, Ozark, with Dr. Phillip Burden, Chris Thixton, and David Hicks, officiating along with grandson, Shawn Bowie. Visitation will take place at the church from 1-2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Following the service, burial will be in the Weaver Cemetery, North State Highway NN, Ozark, MO.
