Joyce Kuglar Kowalchuk, 88, of Delaware Park, Lopatcong Township, NJ, passed away on Monday, April 19, 2021 at her home, surrounded by her family. She is now with her husband, William, with whom she wed, 69 years ago, on April 19, 1952. Joyce was born in Lopatcong Township on April 22, 1932 to the late William and Helen Kugler Hackman. Joyce was a homemaker for her family. She was an avid bingo and slots player, and adored spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Joyce and her husband, William, were fixtures at the Annual Fireman’s Conventions in Wildwood, NJ for many years. In 1991, Joyce had suffered a debilitating stroke from which she rallied back. Her willpower to recover and continue to care for her handicapped daughter, Donna, was an inspiration to many. Joyce was, at one time, a member of Pilgrim Presbyterian Church of Phillipsburg. She was also a member of the AARP, Delaware Park Ladies Auxiliary, and was one of the original volunteer members of the ARC of Warren County with which she was involved in the construction of Camp Warren in Hope, NJ. Joyce was the recipient of the Lopatcong Township Volunteer Appreciation Award and served, along with her husband, as Grand Marshall of the 100th Anniversary of the Delaware Park Fire Department. Joyce is survived by her son, William J. Kowalchuk, Jr. and his wife Rosemary of Phillipsburg; daughter, Wendy M. Wilson of Phillipsburg; grandchildren, Daniel Kowalchuk, Christine Perkinson, Stewart and Kelly Sickels, and Natasha Snyder; 17 great grandchildren; sisters, Betty Burd ,Mildred Race and Barbara Berry. Joyce was predeceased by her husband, William J “Nussy” Kowalchuk, Sr.; daughter, Donna L. Kowalchuk; and sister, Shirley Boss. The family would like to say a special thank you Willett, Joyce’s caregiver from Crossroads Home Care, for taking such wonderful care of Joyce. A Service for Joyce will be held on Friday, April 23, 2021 at 11am at the Rupell Funeral Home, LLC; 465 Memorial Parkway; Phillipsburg, NJ 08865. A Visitation of Family and Friends will be held on Thursday, April 22, 2021 from 6pm to 8pm and Friday, April 23rd from 10am until service time at the funeral home.
