Paul Glenn Copeland of Washington, MO was born July 23, 1934 in Palmyra, IL; the son of Clyde Copeland and his wife Grace (nee Johns). Paul passed away Sunday, April 18, 2021 at the age of 86 years. He received his education at Union High School and Southeast Missouri State University, where he played basketball for 4 years. Paul served in the United States Army from 1957 to 1959. He was united in marriage to Mary Anna (nee Krieger) on August 11, 1957 at the First Baptist Church in Union. After Paul was discharged from the military, the couple settled in Union, prior to moving to Washington in 2002. He enjoyed a long career as a principal with the Union R-XI School District before retiring in 1990. He was a member of The Ridge Church in Villa Ridge. Paul was very active in numerous community organizations. He served as a City Alderman for Union, was a past member of both the Union R-XI School Board and the Southeast Missouri State Foundation Board, and ministered as a Deacon for First Baptist Church in Union. Paul’s greatest joy in life was the time spent with his cherished family and friends. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Grace Copeland; and one daughter, Judi Beth Copeland. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Anna Copeland; two daughters: Dr. Vicki VanLaere and husband Doug of Washington, and Lori Parker and husband Dr. Ken Parker of Kearney, MO; five grandchildren: Dr. Paul (Dr. Paige) VanLaere, Jessica (Tim) Murphy, Vanessa (Nick) Narzinski, Zach (Chloe) Parker, and Luke Parker; nine great-grandchildren: Jones, Cam, Nolyn, Liv, Lillian, Evelyn, Ryann, Hudson, and Jack; and many other relatives and friends. Visitation for Paul Copeland will be Thursday, April 22, 2021 from 3:30 PM to 7:00 PM at Oltmann Funeral Home in Union, MO. Funeral Service will be Friday, April 23, 2021 at 11:00 AM at The Ridge Church in Villa Ridge, MO with Pastor Roger Johnson officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Midlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Union, MO. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Mercy Home Health and Hospice or The Ridge Church. The Copeland Family is served by Oltmann Funeral Home in Union, MO.
