It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our mother, Barbara, on April 16, 2021 at the age of 89 years. She passed away peacefully at Haven Hill Retirement Home in Penticton. She is survived by her four children, Russel (Donna-deceased), Denise (Gordon), Tom (Evelyn) and Scott (Kim); brother Denny (Betty-deceased); sister‑in‑law Pearl (Gene-deceased); and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Barbara will be deeply missed by her family and many friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Bob; her father, Arthur; and her mother, Marjorie.

Barb was born in Masset and remained there for most of her life. She and Dad (Bob) had a full life married for 61 years. After Bob passed away in 2012, she had assistance in her home and when she required further care she moved to Penticton where she spent the last two years of her life at Haven Hill Retirement Centre close to family. 

She was well known in Masset and made many connections in the community through volunteering and her generous heart. She served on many committees and also as a School Board Trustee for many years. Mom's greatest legacy was her ability to connect with people. She had a smile that would brighten your heart, stop as many times and as often as needed to greet people, assist with any and all community efforts, and always turn a negative experience into a positive one. She is well known for her love of cooking and including as many people as possible for dinners and celebrations. Mom worked in the fishing plant in Masset, owned and operated a small gift shop in her younger years, and later on decided she wanted to purchase a travel agency which led to some lovely trips for her and Dad. 

We would like to thank Nemencia Yu who assisted her for 4.5 years in her home, the staff and nurses of Northern Haida Gwaii Health Centre in Masset who also assisted her during many medical problems due to diabetes, Dr. Louw (Penticton), and the nurses and staff at Haven Hill Retirement Centre who all cared for her with love and compassion.
