Matthew Daniel Martin Obituary

It is with deep sadness and profound love that we announce the passing of Matthew D. Martin, age 44. Matt died at home, unexpectedly on April 11, 2021.

Matt was born October 15, 1976 in Minneapolis, MN to proud parents Richard and Trish. Matt was an inquisitive and precocious toddler, and his years spent in Faribault, MN always held a special place in his heart. In 1981, he and his family moved to Fort Collins, CO with new baby brother Danny in tow.

Growing up in Fort Collins, Matt quickly made many friends. He was always willing to reach out and help someone in need- a quality that would follow him his entire life. In junior high Matt’s family expanded when he gained a loving second mother Kim and dear brothers Joe and Cody. Matt was voted “most friendly” and homecoming king in high school.

Matt attended The University of Colorado, Boulder where he excelled academically as a member of Delta Sigma Pi business fraternity. He graduated with a Bachelors in Business from the Leeds School of Business. It is no surprise that Matt also made lifelong friends at CU. A proud Buff, he attended many CU Buff tailgates, games, and hung his alumni flag years after graduating.

Matt met the love of his life, Michelle, when he moved to Denver from Superior. They were both competing in their first triathlon to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Michelle’s love for life and gift for making friends perfectly complimented Matt’s and they married in 2014. Matt and Michelle welcomed baby girls Amelia in 2016 and Madeline in 2018. Like every other endeavor, Matt was an attentive partner and natural and capable parent. He cherished his girls with his whole heart.

There are so many ways to describe Matt- intelligent, sociable, thoughtful, witty, hard-working, and devoted are just a few. He was the husband, son, father, and friend that everyone aspires to be. Matt always had time for others and his kindness and lust for life attracted so many.  Matt engrossed himself in history and enjoyed meeting and learning about new cultures. His adventurous spirit led him to follow his father and uncle’s footsteps, travelling across the world and almost every continent, and to almost all 50 states.

Matt’s love of life lifted up everyone around him and his genuine smile and caring demeanor drew people to him. He was a rare gem. Matt loved Dave Matthews Band, good music, history, Turkey Trots, Volleyball nights, vacations, CU football games, Beer fests, wine fests, birthdays, holidays and any reason to get together. Because of his innate connection with people and meticulous organizational skills, Matt also achieved success professionally as a manager of people and projects.

It is with a heavy heart that we have to say goodbye to Matt, but we know that his greatest virtues - his kindness, humor, intelligence, and love will live on through his beautiful daughters, Amelia and Madeline, as well as in the many lives he touched.

Thanks for loving us the way you did-  truly whole heartedly and selflessly in every way.

“I could only be grateful when I realized that I would rather have known you for a moment than never at all.  I would rather endure this inexplicable pain of outliving you than to have never have seen your face, spoken your name.  I would rather be yours and you be mine, regardless.  Regardless of the sorrow, the sleepless nights, and the years I will walk this earth, carrying you in my heart.

Scribbles and crumbs”
