William John "Bill" Spooner

William “Bill” John Spooner (nee Cuillerier) was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend and role model. He left this world peacefully with his family by his side, on Thursday, April 15, 2021 at the age of 86. Bill was born on May 25, 1935 in Espanola, Ontario to Honorius Cuillerier and Marie Landry. On February 20, 1954, he married the love of his life Elda Mary Bourque of Burwash, Ontario. They lived together almost inseparably for over 65 years. Together, they raised five children: Andrew (Elizabeth), Larry (Ginette), Katherine (Harvey Mallette), Denis (Marcia) and Kelly (Robert Berschl). “Grandpa Smarties” will be lovingly remembered by his 11 grandchildren (Jason, Tracy, Alain, Aleisha, Lee-Ann, Daniel, Taylor, Tina, Jasmyn, Jaydn, and Mackenzie), 19 great grandchildren, and newest great-great grand-daughter. With his passing, Bill has been reunited with his children Andy and Kathy and his siblings (Anita, Jackie and Richard (Dickie)). From a young age, Bill had an insatiable appetite for personal development. He placed no limits on what could be achieved through self-discipline, perseverance and a commitment to learning. An avid reader, he was often found with a book in his hands and carefully crafted notes at his side. His insurance adjusting career began in Rouyn Noranda, QC, followed quickly by a transfer to Edmundston, NB, and another to Kapuskasing, ON. Seeking stability for his family, Bill built his own independent insurance adjusting business, where he served the Sudbury community for a number of decades. Bill was known for his quick wit, his pleasant smile and his loving spirit. The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Bill. He loved a quiet evening with his wife and family around the kitchen table sharing conversation, playing games and savouring Elda’s cooking. Despite his health challenges in recent years, he had an uncanny ability to find happiness in his daily activities. His open heart and pleasant disposition was contagious to everyone who knew him. Bill had a passion for art and nature’s beauty. His duck carvings were exceptional and admired by family and friends. Receiving one of his pieces of art was a true honour. Over the years, Bill was a pillar of strengthen for his family. His family values of virtue, unconditional love, dedication, responsibility, hard work and integrity will live on through his family for generations to come. He will be forever missed.
