James "Jimmy" Hawkes Obituary

James R. Hawkes, affectionately called by all “Jimmy” passed away suddenly on Friday, April 9, 2021 in Centra Lynchburg General Hospital, Lynchburg, VA. He was the second child born on October 21, 1964 to Carl Sr. and Shirley Hawkes. Jimmy attended the Nottoway County Public Schools and was employed by J.D. Whitt Roofing, Paul D. Coleman, Norfolk and Southern Railroad and various companies. At an early age he was baptized and joined the Cedar Hill Baptist Church, under the pastoral leadership of Reverend Walter Prince. He trusted in the Lord and lived his life by faith. Jimmy had “gifted hands” and many talents, if there was anything you needed repaired, he was the man. Jimmy enjoyed motorcyle riding, hunting, fishing, baseball, football, a die-hard “Redskins Fan.” He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. On a daily basis you would see him cruising through the town of Blackstone, checking out the community. To cherish his memories are: his daughter, Shamar and granddaughter, SaRa´i; devoted and dedicated parents, C. L. and Shirley; two brothers, Carl L. Hawkes, Jr.(Evelyn) and Andre´ M. Hawkes (Cynthia); nieces: LaToya Harvey (Mack), LaCara Hawkes, and Makayle Hawkes; nephews, Marquis Hawkes and Matthew Joyner; two great nieces, Mackenzie and Mackiya; one great nephew, Mackari; aunts; Josephine Sterns (Ralph), Ruth Milner, Mary Goode, Fannie Jackson, Elsie Gholson (Raymond), Jacqueline Downs (McCarthy), Zelda Tucker-Dugger, Lottie K. Tucker, Gladys L. Hawkes, Mable T. Hawkes; uncles; Raymond Hawkes (Veda), William M. Tucker, Sr.(Thelma) and James I. Tucker (Lillian); a host of cousins and friends; dedicated cousin; James “Hot Dog” Goode and sidekicks, Milton “Flipper” Robertson and Tyree Elder. Viewing Friday, April 16, 2021 from 12 to 7PM. Graveside Service Saturday, April 17, 2021 at 1:00PM at Cedar Hill Baptist Church, Blackstone. W.E. Hawkes & Son Funeral Home of Blackstone in charge of arrangement.
