Jacqueline Elnora Coon, 86, of Rockford, Michigan, formerly of Clinton, passed away at Boulder Creek Assisted Living on Friday, April 9, 2021. A graveside service will take place at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 15, at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Homes assisted the family with arrangements. Jacqueline was born November 24, 1934 in Ottumwa, Iowa, the daughter of Clarence and Alice (Edgington) Matheney. While working in the office for Interstate Power in Clinton, Jacqueline applied for a job opening for a Meter Reader so that she could make more money to provide for her children. Challenged that she would not last 1 week at the job, Jacqueline became the first female Utility Meter Reader there, remaining at that job for nearly 20 years; walking 21 miles per day, carrying dog treats in her pockets for the dogs on her routes. Before that she held a position as Assistant to Attorney Elmer Bekman and after her retirement became a Curves personal trainer. As a young mother she delighted her children with performing cartwheels in the backyard. She had a passion for health, nutrition and a great love for all animals - her dogs and African Grey parrots held a special place in her heart. Jacqueline had a vast thirst for knowledge that went beyond those passions. Her kindness and love was always present - she was the sole caretaker of her second husband for several years until he passed away from cancer. Above all, she loved her family very much and will be greatly missed. Jacqueline is survived by her children: Toni Glasgow of Gillette, Wyoming, Mark (Kathy) Satterfield of Rockford, Michigan, Deeanna Whitmore of Albany, Illinois; 7 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; one brother - Dan (Dee) Matheney; one sister - Carolyn (Robert) Hauber; and her partner of 25 years - John Kurt. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister - Joleen; and brother- Amel. Memorials made can be directed to the family.
