William Frank Gibbs Obituary

William “Bill” Frank Gibbs 78 of Kansas City Mo passed away on Thursday, April 8, 2021. Bill was born in Wichita, Kansas to Roland and June Doris Gibbs on September 13, 1942. Bill spent his childhood years in Wichita. Bill served his country by serving in the Air Force. He went to Yale University and studied Chinese (Mandarin). He served in intelligence during the Viet Nam War. After his service he went to LeTourneau University and studied Divinity. Years later he went back to college and got a Masters in Counseling. Bill accepted Christ in February 1971. He married Martha in September of 1972. To this union a daughter, Rosemarie, and son, Billy, was born. Bill threw the Kansas City Star for thirteen years. He was employed at Platte County Board of Services serving the disabled community. He served on the board of Developing Potential in Independence, Missouri. He was an adjunct instructor at Calvary Bible College training students to help others through the Word of God. In 1997 he was employed at Open Door Baptist Church as a Biblical Counselor. Bill’s life was an example of a heart changed. He never forgot the mercy and grace given to him and sought every day to live for the One Who changed His life for the better. God had a special plan for Bill and evidence of God’s grace was seen in his life. Often times he would say, “I do not know why God has put us in this situation but I know he will see us through.” Bill’s life as a counselor was truly a God calling. Bill loved his Savior and had a desire to lead others to salvation and the love of God and to see His plan for their life. Bill’s greatest joy in life was his children and the way they chose to live their life for his Lord. We can only imagine the reunion of Bill with his son Billy as he entered the gates of heaven. They both so longed to see their Savior and are now together with Him. Bill was preceded in death by his son Billy Gibbs, his parents Roland and June Doris Gibbs, his sister Patricia Weiskirch, parents-in-law Herman and Joyce Esry. Survivors include: wife Martha, daughter Rosemarie (Craig) Englis, daughter-in-law Amy Gibbs, grandchildren, Isaac, Micah, and Katie Gibbs, step-grandchildren Logan Englis, Chelsea (Nick) Myrick, and several foster grandchildren, sister Penny (Royce) Elliott. brother-in-law Dan Weiskirch, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
