James Allen Harvey, Sr. was born August 2, 1937 in Mexico, Missouri to Edward Harvey and Helen Harvey Patton.

James eventually moved to Des Moines Iowa and obtained a career in sanitation working as a janitor for American Republic Insurance. James met his beautiful wife, Barbara Harvey and they married in September of 1957 at the justice of the Peace Courthouse. James and Barbara were deeply in love up until her passing.

James will be remembered as a family man, a loving Father, and a rock for everyone in his life. James loved watching sports and especially loved watching his soaps; nobody could bother him while his soaps were on.

James attended Mt. Hebron Missionary Baptist Church of Des Moines, Iowa under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Bobby L. Young.

James passed away April 9, 2021 at his home in Des Moines, Iowa.  He is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Harvey; parents, Edward and Helen Harvey; brothers, Edward Harvey, Jr., Ben Harvey, and Earl Harvey; sisters, Edna Fugate, Louise Herrold, Mary Lou Johnson, and   Elizabeth Roland; grandchildren, Rineari Slaughter and Ajaya Frye; and daughter, Marilyn Harvey.

James is survived by his brother, Rueben Harvey; sons, James Harvey, Jr. (Charleen) and Dennis Harvey (Barbara); daughters, Diane Harvey, Monica Adair (Barry Sr.), and Jerrie Harvey; grandchildren, Rodger Gardner, Jr., Dianndra Palimore, Destinee Palimore, Earl Harvey, Timica Lee, Timothy Lee, Jr., Barry Adair, Dontez Adair, C’Era Daily, Bree Wright, Alysia Wright, Dajha Wright,  Denisha  Harvey, Terresha Young, Jerica Harvey, Whitney Brannon, Jalisa Harvey, Jada Hawthorne, Jordyn Hayes, Alijha Hayes, and Shamya Hayes; and numerous beloved great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
